The Drake Hotel
May 5th, 2010
I had never thought of the Drake Hotel as being a wedding venue, until we spent a saturday in April at Maureen and Paul’s Wedding. The staff were wonderful, all the decorations were stunning, Maureens bouquet was perfect and the food was delicious. What more could you ask for? walking to the wedding perhaps.. that was a first for us. And they got one of my favorite toronto bands to play, LMT Connection.
Bridal Headpieces at Shopgirls
May 5th, 2010
Another one our favorite neighbourhood stores, Shopgirls, now has glamorous birdcage headpieces for brides. You can find these and a ton of playful, artsy goods and clothing in their store at 1342 Queen Street West
our weekend of cupcakes
May 4th, 2010
the cupcake review part 1 is in…
a weekend off during wedding season is rare and we spent ours sampling cupcakes from a shop down the street. For The Love of Cake has over 25 tasty flavors of cupcake and in order to not gain more than 5 extra pounds this weekend, we opted to try just 6. So this is definitely a part 1 of many to come tastings.
Round 1
Guiness Chocolate, Pumpkin Pie, Stout Spice, Red Velvet, Black Forest and Lemon Meringue
Our Favorite: Guiness Chocolate with its rich, stouty, chocolatey goodness, I would eat one every day if I could! We also really enjoyed the cream cheese frosting on the Red Velvet. Close seconds were the pumpkin pie and stout spice. Whats awesome about their cupcakes is the 4 dimensionality of them, something unique to For The Love of Cake.
I’m looking at their cupcake selection right now and I hope they have the PB&C next time we are in, that sounds deadly.
These insanely delicious sounding cupcakes are made by the good folks at For The Love Of Cake. As I said in the title of the post their shop is located in Liberty Village just down the street from our studio. Which is great news for my insatiable appetite for cupcake-y goodness, but really bad news for fitting into my dress pants. I wonder if they make stretchy dress pants for men? Anyways, these three cupcakes were the ones that immediately caught my eye. Kristie and I will be going down there this weekend to purchase a reasonable sampling of their selection, we will then eat them all and tell you which were our favourites.
Oh, and in case you were asking yourself what on earth this has to do with weddings, they also do wedding cakes. It ain’t all about me and my cupcakes.
This one is Guinness Chocolate.
Here’s their description “A chocolate cupcake flavoured with Guinness beer, filled with an Irish whiskey chocolate ganache and topped with cream cheese frosting and chocolate shavings.” That is a real thing. This cupcake exists.
Japanese Ginger
Kristie is unable to resist anything with ginger. Ginger is like Kristie’s kryptonite, but instead of killing her, it just makes her really happy. So it’s not really like kryptonite at all, I just wanted to make a comic book reference. Here is their description “A tangy ginger cupcake filled with a plum sake reduction and topped with cream cheese frosting and a plum slice covered in a sake glaze.”
Stout Spice
This one just looks like a sour cream glazed donut. Which is something that I am ashamed to love. This is what they have to say “A moist spice cake flavoured with orange zest and Guinness topped with a stout glaze and a candied orange peel.”
Pumpkin Pie!
Pumpkin Pie and I have some serious issues. Here’s them again “A perfectly spiced pumpkin cupcake topped with a dollop of real whipped cream and sprinkled with fresh ground nutmeg. Just like biting into pumpkin pie!”
I am aware that I may be coming across like one of the Golden Girls, but I care not a bit.
Stay tuned for our taste test!
tied gets green!
April 27th, 2010
In 2010 Tied Photo+Films is going Green! Or at least more green than we already are. We’ve started with our packaging, replacing our traditional plastic cases with brand spankin’ new 100% recycled cardboard cases. They are pretty and fun and now we have an excuse to play with stamps! We’ve also switched our Thank You Card printing to eco-friendly papers using vegetable based inks. In our search for green goods for the company we’ve come across some great eco wedding ideas as well. We will now share those ideas with you. Right. Now.
There are a load of people making wedding stationary from recycled goods. I am a huge Etsy fan, so I find most of my fav’s on there.
here are a few of my favorite eco-invites, thank you’s and save the dates
another eco idea for invites… use postcards! they save on the envelope or e-vites, they save on all paper products.
More great green ideas i found this week.
grow your own bouquet(if you have the garden space). This is eco and budget friendly
